THE ORIGINAL VISTA SIDEBAR EMULATOR

There is a sidebar for Rainmeter but it uses images taken from my sidebar. Please consider downloading this version instead.

You need the Windows Vista cleartype fonts: You can download the fonts here:

They come with Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer 2007. You may delete the viewer after the fonts are installed.

README FIRST

--In order for the installation to complete successfully, you MUST close all running instances and configs, AND any open Samurize programs (configuration editor, instance manager, etc.)

--Make sure you have Serious Samurize 1.64.2 or above installed

--You must have the Windows Vista cleartype fonts (see link on deviantart) and included fonts installed ***

To install:

1. Double Click the Samurize Vista Sidebar 4 executable and extract the folders and files to your Samurize directory.

NOTE: The directory MUST be C:\Program Files\Samurize or the sidebar will NOT work. Double check to make sure each folder has been copied to the correct location.


2. When prompted, replace ANY config, plugin, image, or script with the one included with the sidebar to ensure that everything works properly.

3. Install the included and Vista system fonts (PowerPoint Viewer).

4. Place the halo2.wav file into your Samurize directory (Halo Countdown file).

5. Start the Instance Manager and under the 'Default' instance, click on the bottom left corner to edit. Select the "Vista Sidebar.ini."

6. Run the Default Instance.

7. At this point, you should be able to click the '+' (Add Gadgets) button.

*** To load any gadgets on startup, you must run the Instance Manager and next to each active instance, click edit and make sure "Run client on Startup" is checked. ***

Notes:

--Most gadgets have a popup menu when you place your mouse over a gadget so that you may select a variation. Gadgets can also be customized using the configuration editor (Config.exe).

--To refresh the RSS (Sports and NY Times) you must click the 'more headlines' link.

--To configure the weather, open the Weather2004.ini in your Samurize>lugins folder and edit the default code to your location and save. Make sure all weather instances are closed during this process.

--To use the media player with Windows Media Player 11, you must select the Samurize Info Plugin in WMP11 from 'View' > 'lugins' > 'Other'

--When the recycle bin has files in it, you may notice some system performance degradation. The plugin creator has already been notified.

-If the Sticky Notes font appears jagged or if you prefer a cleaner look, try Notetaker.dll, part of the Plugin Pack at Samurize.com. It offers auto scrolling when typing and smoother fonts. It is not included here because for many, the existing textpad.dll is fine.
